Do you want to be part of a national AmeriCorps Seniors program, helping older adults give back?
AmeriCorps is the federal agency connecting individuals and organizations through service and volunteering to tackle the nation’s most pressing challenges. Greater Cleveland Volunteers is proud to be an AmeriCorps Seniors partner.
Last year, local AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteers aged 55+ made a difference in Cuyahoga County:
- Food was provided to almost 1,200 recipients in need: 81% of recipients stated they were eating more nutritious meals, with 81% stating they were eating more fruits and vegetables.
- Over 360 homebound individuals received home-delivered meals: 100% of clients stated they are eating more regularly scheduled meals, with 93% stating they are able to remain living in their own home. For many, the volunteer delivering the meals may be the only social contact they have.
- Health Education services were provided to over 130 older adults: Workshops were provided on topics such as chronic disease self-management, matter of balance and diabetes self-management. Clients stated increasing their health knowledge, which led to making better health care and food choices.
Volunteering has also been shown to improve the overall health of volunteers, leading to more rewarding lives.
The Cuyahoga County AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program focuses on the following needs:
- Access to Healthcare
- Disaster Services
- Economic Opportunity: Housing and Job Preparedness
- Hunger
- Health Education
- Prison Visitation
- Services to Older Adults
- Youth Empowerment through Education, Mentoring & College Access
