Mentors support motivated high school students from low-income families as they pursue college and career goals. Serving as a trusted adult role model, mentors provide encouragement, guidance, and insight from their own educational and career experiences. Volunteers help students explore opportunities, apply for summer college programs, and navigate the college admissions process with support from the program's admissions team. Mentors attend scheduled sessions on select Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., 16-20 times throughout the school year in downtown Cleveland. Help ensure homebound older adults receive nutritious meals and a friendly visit. Drivers deliver meals Monday through Friday between 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. to clients in Bay Village, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township, and Westlake. Volunteers use their own vehicle to follow an assigned route, provide a brief wellness check, and offer social connection to participants. Mileage reimbursement is available for volunteers age 55 and older. Blood Transportation Specialists play a vital role in supporting local hospitals and patients by safely transporting blood, platelets, and medical supplies throughout Cuyahoga County. Volunteers use a supplied vehicle to deliver critical medical products between collection sites, processing laboratories, and healthcare facilities, helping ensure life-saving resources are available when needed. Volunteers commit to two shifts per month, with each shift lasting 4-6 hours. This meaningful opportunity provides a direct way to support patient care and make a difference in the community. Volunteers are needed to support a Holiday Toy Giveaway in Cleveland's Hough Neighborhood on Tuesday, December 15th through Sunday, December 20th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Volunteers will play an important role in helping ensure local families receive holiday toys by assisting with event setup, organizing and distributing toys, directing participants, and helping with cleanup and breakdown at the conclusion of the event. Hospice volunteers bring comfort and support to patients and their loved ones in many ways, including assisting with fundraising efforts that help sustain important programs and services. You can make a difference by supporting a Warehouse Sale in the Collinwood neighborhood on Saturday, December 5, and Sunday, December 6. Volunteers are needed for three shifts: Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Responsibilities may include moving and arranging furniture, assisting customers on the sales floor, organizing merchandise, and helping create a welcoming shopping experience for attendees. - How long before I can volunteer?Answer:
The onboarding process varies by agency. Volunteer opportunities in the medical and social services fields usually have additional requirements (training sessions, immunizations), which can take up to two months to complete. Some opportunities will allow you to volunteer almost immediately. - Are background checks required?Answer:
All AARP Foundation Experience Corps Tutors are required to undergo a background check via Greater Cleveland Volunteers. All other volunteers may be subject to a background check depending on the agency and type of volunteer opportunity. - I have court ordered community service to do.Answer:
We recommend that individuals with court ordered community service consult our Events Calendar. This will be the best option in achieving required hours. After reviewing the calendar, contact the staff member listed to sign up to volunteer at one or more of the Events. - I am under age 18. My family would like to volunteer together. Can you help me?Answer:
Our agency works with volunteers aged 18 and over. Some of our partner agencies welcome families to volunteer together or have youth volunteering programs. We have a complete list of family/youth friendly agencies which offer a variety of volunteer opportunities and would be happy to pass on the information.
